Even though every year is a big year for Brazilian supermodel Adriana Lima, this one is especially important. She's still an ambassador for Maybelline, and she's still a Victoria's Secret Angel (you can catch her walking in this year's Victoria's Secret runway show, which is set to take place in Shanghai, on November 28). But in 2017, she added TV host to her rГ©sumГ©. Yep, in case you missed it, she's the host of the new reality competition series called American Beauty Star, which airs on the Lifetime network after Project Runway.
Clearly, the 36-year-old is showing no signs of slowing down. In fact, quite the opposite. We just can't believe she's 36 years old (though she can). According to People, she's well aware of her age and the effects it might have on her career, but that's not going to stop her or force her into retirement. "My plan is to stay as long as my body allows me, at least until I am 40, so that's four or so more years. But if I can stay longer, I will," Lima says about modeling for Victoria's Secret. Beauty certainly isn't dependent on youth, so we applaud this approach. And while we're on the subject, since when is 40 considered too old for modeling? In our humble opinion, you're never "too old" for anything. We hope Lima sticks around for many, many years to come. (After all, she's a major source of beauty inspiration for us).
Other celebs are speaking out about society's fear of aging too. Helen Mirren, for one, refuses to use the term "anti-aging," saying that she doesn't feel anti-anything. We think this is a great attitude and that everyone should see aging as a privilege, not a scary inevitability.
We're assuming her love for and contentment with modeling with Victoria's Secret has something to do with the fun and supportive environment that they cultivate. According to Lima, it's quite different fro the competitive or shallow labels often thrust upon the industry. "The girls are fun and there's not such a thing as competing with each other," she says. As for the new model recruits, "It's all about enjoying ourselves so I'm sure that they may be nervous but once they get together they realize it's going to be easy, and it's going to be a fun show."
